Epistemology lies at the core of both philosophy and ideology, including within the Islamic tradition. In his seminal work Bunyah al-‘Aql al-‘Arabī and Takwīn al-‘Aql al-‘Arabī, al-Jābirī maps out three epistemological system in the Arab-Islamic tradition: bayānī, ‘irfānī, burhānī. This study aims to analyze how these three modes of reasoning shapes the Islamic world view and examines the interaction between them in Islamic scholarly discourse. The research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical method, using content analysis of al-Jābirī works and related literature. The findings reveal that, despite the apparent contradictions among the three systems, efforts to foster dialogue and balance between them have been integral to the intellectual history of Islam. Al-Jābirī emphasizes the necessity of balancing these three modes for the intellectual revival of the Arab-Islamic world. Bayānī provides a textual foundation, ‘irfānī offers spiritual depth, and burhānī furnishes the rational framework essential for addressing modern challenges. The ongoing dialogue between these modes is key to the development and relevance of Islamic epistemology in the contemporary era.
